ALEXANDER MCQUEEN OVERSIZED TRAINERS SNEAKERS REVIEW

I’m doing a review on the Alexander McQueen Oversized Trainers that have been popular for a while now! It’s a style that has been out for years, but is very much catching on in the trend department at the moment, and with good reason too! They’re a white smooth calf leather, lace-up sneaker, trimmed with metallic heel detailing. You might remember them as they’re the sneakers that had the iridescent back that everyone loved last year! I’ve done a review on everything about these shoes! So read below and check out the photos to see what I think! Let me know in the comments too if you have any questions, plus you can check out all of the places to buy these online at LuisaViaRoma, NET-A-PORTER, My Theresa and Matches, or by them directly at Alexander McQueen!

THE DESIGN

I had been attracted to the look of a sturdy, bright white, designer sneaker for a long time, but I hadn’t come across one that I thought was cool, until I saw these. I love the fact that they combine an old Adidas vibe, with a current, trendy look. There’s a chunkiness to them as they’re oversized in style, which makes these Alexander McQueen trainers just amazing to look at. As you can see, they’re incredibly eye catching and what drew me to them in the first place was the different coloured backs that you can get. It’s such a unique feature and one that I think makes them stand out from all the rest! The rounded toe and thick laces remind me of the 90’s or early 2000’s in a way, but with a much more modern take. They’re structured, really stiff so that they don’t lose their shape, and will keep that look for the duration of their lifetime I believe. It’s also one of those designs that goes with everything, including jeans, shorts, skirts, and dresses! They’re so versatile! I think the minimal branding of the little logo on the back and tongue is ideal too, it’s not over the top!

THE SIZE

For my size, I’m usually between a 39 and 40, depending on the brand and depending on the country. If it’s US style shoes, I’m a 39, but if it’s European, I’m generally a 40. I went with a 40 (UK 7) as Alexander McQueen is a British brand and these shoes are made in Italy, so I figured they would run a little smaller, and I was right. The size 40 actually fits me perfectly all over and I couldn’t have sized down or up. I read a few comments online and some people had said they run small or they run big, but they don’t, they definitely run true to size for me! Go with your standard designer shoe size. If it helps, they run about the same as Balenciaga Race Runners!

THE LEATHER

As I just mentioned, these trainers are made in Italy from 100% calfskin, and they have that lovely smell to them when you get them out of the box (the box is also incredible). It’s a really smooth leather without any grain or texture to it, as you can see in the photos, and the sole of the shoe is rubber, so it makes it very comfortable to walk on. The back of the shoe is also leather, but this does have the textured look to it and has been dyed with metallic leather dye, so they’re truly stunning! I can’t fault the quality here as it seems amazing!

THE COLOUR

When I was deciding what colour to go for in these Alexander McQueen Oversized Trainers, I couldn’t narrow it down for a couple of weeks as I had my eye on the Black (which I had originally wanted), the Rose Gold, or the Pewter. I eventually settled on the Pewter as you can see here and I think it was the best option I could have gone for! The Black was in a suede, so it was quite intense and dark, and the Rose Gold just seems to be a little too feminine or young, whereas the Pewter is stylish and classy, while offering enough of an edge to the shoe to make them fun. There are so many colours to choose from though including blue, red, pink, purple, glitters, dip dye, all white etc… so there really is a pair for everyone! I recommend Pewter though, I really do!

THE COMFORT

Usually, for those of you who know me or read my reviews often, my feet are very sensitive and blister easily and I don’t like wearing shoes which cause any discomfort. I was apprehensive about these to begin with as I’d read online that some people said the toe box digs into their feet, the tongue presses into the front of the ankle, and they were stiff, and these were very valid concerns for me. I decided to give them a go though and just see if they would hurt, but thankfully they don’t! A pair of designer trainers that actually don’t hurt! Sure I can feel the tongue against the front of my ankle as it’s a longer design, but it’s soft enough so that it doesn’t rub or cause any pain there. Sure I can feel the area inside where the toe box meets the laces on my left foot when I walk fast, but that’s because the shoe doesn’t bend or crease up so that it doesn’t lose shape. It’s not painful and at the most I would say a mild discomfort sometimes, but otherwise you can’t feel it. They’re comfortable to walk in, I didn’t even wear socks, and the back of the heel is padded with a super soft leather so there wasn’t even any rubbing, blisters or friction! I wore them for walking about in for over 4 hours, and was incredibly surprised! Definitely comfortable!

THE PRICE & QUALITY

When it comes to designer shoes, the standard price is a starting point of around £300 and then it goes upwards, and I would say between £300-£400 seems to be the normal average for trainers, which is why I think Alexander McQueen got it right as these cost £360. There are many shops in the US though that charge a lot more because like I said above, it’s a UK brand and there’s import and customs fees which get added on top, but if you’re in Europe or here in the UK like me, it’s £360 for these ones! The quality is also amazing as the leather is beautiful, they’re so well made, the stitching is neat and perfect, and they really look like they’re made to last as they’re an incredibly sturdy shoe which doesn’t appear to lose its shape.

OVERALL OPINION

As you can probably tell, my opinion in this Alexander McQueen Oversized Trainers review is really high! I probably give these shoes 9.5 out of 10! The only part that lets them down there is the tongue being a bit longer (but it’s not uncomfortable or painful) and the toe box pressing a bit if I walk fast (not painful) but other than that, everything about them is perfect. The shape, the design, the colour combination of bright white and Pewter, the thick laces, the sturdiness, the quality of the leather, the rubber sole, the comfort, the fact I can wear them without socks, how versatile they are for lots of outfits etc… There’s so many plus points. If you’re looking for a designer trainer in a white, look no further, honestly! I recommend these to you! And this is not sponsored, I purchased these shoes myself from LuisaViaRoma and have no affiliation with the brand, so it’s a genuine, honest review! What do you think of them? It will be great to have your opinions if you own them too!
