About Tempur-Pedic
Tempur-Pedic has been developing memory foam products that provide pressure relief – from seats for NASA aircrafts to its best-selling mattresses – for decades. The brand is famous for its iconic advertisements featuring a person jumping on a Tempur-Pedic mattress while a wine glass sits on top, not falling over thanks to the mattress’ ability to prevent motion transfer. The brand’s popular memory foam mattresses claim to be made of innovative and high-quality materials that can help you achieve a great night’s sleep.
Of course, finding the perfect mattress can be a difficult task because you want to make sure that the mattress you pick is supportive, comfortable and long-lasting and that the price fits within your budget. Tempur-Pedic mattresses are expensive — but are they worth the investment? In Good Housekeeping Institute’s Textiles Lab, we test mattresses of all kinds – from cooling mattresses to mattresses for back pain to hybrid mattresses. Tempur-Pedic carries mattresses in three different collections (Adapt, Cloud and Breeze) at different levels of firmness and different price points. Over the years, we’ve evaluated models from all three of Tempur-Pedic’s collections as a part of our mattress tests. The brand’s Tempur-Cloud mattress placed on our list of the Best Mattresses in a Box of 2022, and the brand’s LuxeBreeze mattress even earned a spot in our roundup of the Best Mattresses of 2022.
To break down all of the mattresses that Tempur-Pedic has to offer, we recently analyzed our previous mattress test results for data on Tempur-Pedic beds. Plus, we worked with our exclusive survey panel who provide real user feedback and contributed over 6,000 survey data points about Tempur-Pedic mattresses, from their thoughts on ease of setup to performance over time. We also tried out the latest Tempur-Pedic mattress and talked with brand representatives about Tempur-Pedic’s mattress features. Here’s all you need to know about Tempur-Pedic’s current mattress collections — Adapt, Cloud and Breeze:
Most Popular Tempur-Pedic Mattresses
Tempur-Adapt Collection
- Best for: Back or neck pain sufferers looking for pressure relief
- Delivery: White glove delivery with free setup and old mattress removal
- Trial period: 90 days
The Tempur-Adapt collection of mattresses includes some of the brand’s best-selling options. The mattresses are designed to adapt specifically to your body’s shape, weight and temperature for extra comfort and support while you sleep.
Available models: There are three options to choose from – the Adapt mattress, ProAdapt mattress or LuxeAdapt mattress. The main differences between the these models are the amounts of memory foam used in each and the different types of specialized foams used.
Tester notes: Our consumer survey panelists are fans of the Tempur-Adapt collection, raving about how well their Adapt mattresses conform to their bodies while they sleep and how well their mattresses maintain their shape, even after years of use. Some respondents noted that it can take awhile to get used to sleeping on a firmer memory foam mattress. However, they said that with time, they enjoyed the firm feel of their Tempur-Adapt collection mattresses and claimed that it helped to ease their back and neck pain. One Good Housekeeping Institute expert shared that Tempur-Pedic’s ProAdapt medium hybrid mattress has grown on her and that her “quality of sleep has improved” since she first began using it. Altogether, the foam Adapt models are more well-received than the hybrid models, which is no surprise because memory foam is what Tempur-Pedic does best.
Adapt Mattress
- Height: 11 inches
- Sizes: Twin, Twin Long, Full, Queen, King, Split King, California King or Split California King
- Firmness level: Medium
- Mattress type: All foam or hybrid
- Price range: $1,949 for a Twin to $3,898 for a Split California King
This model is the opening price point in the Tempur-Adapt collection and uses less-advanced foam than the other models. There’s one firmness level to choose from (medium), and it’s designed with a base and two specialized layers of foam – a softer foam on top for comfort and a supportive foam on the bottom. The hybrid version uses these three layers plus coils within to add edge support and responsiveness for easier movement.
ProAdapt Mattress
- Height: 12 inches
- Sizes: Twin, Twin Long, Full, Queen, King, Split King, California King or Split California King
- Firmness levels: Soft, medium and firm
- Mattress type: All foam or hybrid
- Price range: $2,849 for a Twin to $5,698 for a Split California King
This model is also designed with three layers of foam including the base, but the foam is thicker. The top layer provides cushion and comfort, and the support layer is upgraded from the basic Adapt version to provide 20% more pressure relief than the standard foam. It comes in three firmness levels, and there’s a medium-feel hybrid version with spring coils for bounce.
LuxeAdapt Mattress
- Height: 13 inches

The priciest model in the Tempur-Adapt collection, this one uses more foam than the previous two. It’s still just three layers, but the height of each specialized layer is increased. The soft option is made with nearly double the comforting foam used in the soft ProAdapt mattress, and there’s a thinner layer of support foam underneath. The firm option uses comfort foam as the top layer and a thicker layer of support foam underneath that the brand claims to provide 40% more pressure relief than the standard foam.
Best Value Tempur-Pedic Mattresses
Tempur-Cloud Collection
- Best for: Someone who wants the benefits of a Tempur-Pedic mattress for less
- Delivery: Shipped boxed for DIY setup through UPS
- Trial period: 90 days
Tempur-Pedic has jumped on the popular and convenient mattress-in-a-box trend with the brand’s more affordable Tempur-Cloud collection mattress that is shipped straight to your door. Although the Cloud mattress is offered at a lower price than other options, it is still high-quality and made with the brand’s iconic motion-isolating, pressure-relieving Tempur material.
Tester Notes: Our panel of reviewers agrees that Tempur-Cloud’s memory foam material is supportive and provides great motion isolation. Many shared that they can’t feel the movement of their pets or spouses shifting around on the bed at night. Respondents also remarked on how comfortable the mattress is, with one reviewer even saying, “It’s like sleeping on a cloud,” lending credibility to the name. Although the memory foam mattress can be compacted enough to fit into a box, it’s still dense and heavy, so it is a little difficult to lift when putting on sheets and can be hard to move when rearranging furniture. But overall, our tester panel found the mattress to be worth the price and the heavy lifting.
Cloud Mattress
- Height: 10 inches
- Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Split King and California King
- Firmness levels: Medium
- Mattress type: All foam or hybrid
- Price range: $1,899 for a Twin to $3,798 for a Split King
The Cloud mattress is the most affordable of all of Tempur-Pedic’s beds and is made of similar quality foams compared to the brand’s other models. It just uses a little less of the specialized foams and has a slightly shorter profile with a height of 10 inches. The medium option is made with a base layer of foam and two specialized layers – one to support your body and one for cushion and comfort – while the hybrid option includes an additional layer of over 1,000 spring coils for edge support and bounce.
Best Cooling Tempur-Pedic Mattresses
Tempur-Breeze Collection
- Best for: Hot sleepers who want a mattress that can help them stay cool through the night
- Delivery: White glove delivery with free setup and old mattress removal
- Trial period: 90 days
Memory foam mattresses are notorious for being on the hotter side because dense memory foam absorbs body heat and lacks an easy way to release it, so Tempur-Pedic has developed a Tempur-Breeze collection of mattresses to combat this issue. These mattresses are made with foams that are specially integrated with the brand’s phase-change technology, which has been proven to keep you from overheating and should help you stay anywhere from 3° to 8° cooler while you sleep.
Available models: The Tempur-Breeze collection includes two mattresses, the ProBreeze mattress and the LuxeBreeze mattress. The main differences between the these models are the amounts of memory foam used in each and the different types of specialized foams used.
Tester Notes: This mattress collection is a favorite of Good Housekeeping Institute staff, who say that the LuxeBreeze models deliver deep sleep and have held up to years of use. They’re also impressed by the cooling capabilities of the mattresses, but note that you may not want to use a mattress protector because it can get in the way of the cooling effect, so you have to be cautious about avoiding spills on the bed. Our consumer panelists agree that the bed is cooling and that it helps them to sleep comfortably throughout the night without overheating.
ProBreeze Mattress
- Height: 11 inches
- Sizes: Twin, Twin Long, Full, Queen, King, Split King, California King and Split California King
- Firmness levels: Medium
- Mattress type: All foam or hybrid
- Price range: $3,949 for a Twin Long to $7,898 for a Split King
This mattress is designed with a base layer and two cooling layers of foam that are meant to keep you 3° cooler than other models of Tempur-Pedic mattresses. The top layer is meant to absorb heat, and the layer below allows for airflow. Plus there’s a cool-to-touch cover to keep your temperature comfortable as soon as you lie down. The hybrid option is similar. but there are over over 1,000 spring coils under the cooling foams to provide extra support and allow for easier movement.
LuxeBreeze Mattress
- Height: 11 inches
- Sizes: Twin Long, Queen, King, Split King, California King and Split California King
- Firmness levels: Soft and firm
- Mattress type: All foam
- Price range: $4,949 for a Twin Long to $9,898 for a Split King
The most expensive of all Tempur-Pedic mattresses, the LuxeBreeze is made with a base layer of foam and three additional layers of cooling foam to keep you up to 8° cooler while you sleep. There’s a layer of foam to absorb heat, one to provide airflow and an additional layer of foam specific to this mattress that is designed with small holes to allow ventilation. The mattress cover is cool to the touch for additional comfort.
Final verdict: Are Tempur-Pedic mattresses worth it?
The comfort level and life span of Tempur-Pedic beds make them well worth the price, according to the majority of our survey panelists and testers. If you want a long-lasting bed that cradles your body and provides superior pressure relief while you sleep, a Tempur-Pedic mattress may be the right pick for you. They’re also great choices for couples since they prevent motion transfer, which means you won’t feel your partner moving around in bed while you sleep. A Tempur-Pedic memory foam bed may not be for everyone, though. Memory foam mattresses don’t offer the same edge support and stability as traditional innerspring mattresses. And if you’re mattress shopping on a budget, it’s best to pass on Tempur-Pedic and check out our list of the best affordable mattresses instead, which includes some high quality memory foam picks for less. Ultimately, it’s up to you and your specific sleeping needs, but remember, you’re always able to test out a Tempur-Pedic bed first before committing.
How we test Tempur-Pedic mattresses
The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab experts are constantly analyzing mattresses from many different brands, including Tempur-Pedic, both in and outside of the Lab. We first review any material information, dimension specifications and other features related to the mattresses. We also look into the brand’s product claims like “cooling” or “eco-friendly” and ensure they can be validated. For this article, we spoke with representatives at Tempur-Pedic who were able to provide us with additional information about the brand and the mattresses featured.
Our product experts and consumer testers then try out the mattresses, sharing with us their experiences with delivery and setup and their time sleeping on the mattresses. Along with collecting feedback from expert and consumer testers, we also survey our panel of Good Housekeeping readers, who give their thoughts about mattresses they personally own. With the help of data collected from our product experts, consumer testers and panelists, we’re able to evaluate mattresses for a variety of characteristics:
Ordering and delivery: Users tell us about the delivery process and whether or not the mattress was easy to order, if it arrived on time and if they had any customer-service issues.
Set up: Our survey respondents and testers share their thoughts about the setup process and whether or not the mattress took shape quickly.
Firmness level: Testers give the mattress a firmness rating to help us understand if the brand’s claims about firmness level and feel are accurate.
Edge support: Reviewers sit on the edge of their beds and share if the beds sink or maintain their shape with the added weight and pressure.
Comfort and support: Our testers rate the mattresses for comfort and support according to their initial experiences and then over an extended period of time.
Temperature regulation: We ask reviewers to rate if they stayed at a comfortable body temperature while sleeping on the mattress to observe materials and any cooling features.
Sleep quality: Our respondents tell us about their experiences sleeping on the mattresses, whether or not it impacted their quality of sleep (positively or negatively) and their overall satisfaction with the mattresses.
Additional feedback: Reviewers are also able to share their specific likes and dislikes about the mattresses and share any other comments.
Tempur-Pedic materials explained
Tempur-Pedic’s mattresses are all made with the brand’s well-known and innovative memory foam materials. There are so many different types of memory foam that it can be difficult to understand how each type of foam impacts your mattress and your sleep. Here are some of Tempur-Pedic’s most popular materials explained:
Original Tempur Comfort foam: This is the brand’s original memory foam material, developed to cradle your body and provide comfort.
Tempur-ES Comfort foam: A step up from the original comfort foam. The “ES” stands for “extra soft.”
Tempur-CM+ Comfort foam: This foam is like the traditional comfort foam but with cooling power, thanks to its innovative cell structure and the infused phase-change technology that lend breathability and a cooling effect.
Original Tempur Support foam: The brand’s original support foam, developed to support your body and relieve pressure while you sleep.
Tempur-APR Support foam: “APR” stands for “advanced pressure relief,” and this foam provides 20% more pressure relief than the Original Tempur Support foam.
Tempur-APR+ Support foam: APR+ is a level up from APR and is designed with a tighter cell structure for 40% more pressure relief than the Original Tempur Support foam.
Ventilated Tempur-APR Support foam: Similar to the regular Tempur-APR Support foam, this material is supportive but also breathable, thanks to the ventilated structure with small holes that provide air flow.
Which Tempur-Pedic mattress is best for my sleep position?
Tempur-Pedic told Good Housekeeping that there’s more to choosing the right mattress than your sleep position alone. Other factors like body size, distribution of mass and prior injuries should all be considered when picking your perfect mattress. The brand carries a range of mattresses at different levels of firmness that are designed with different types of memory foam to help meet the needs of all types of sleepers.
However, Tempur-Pedic did offer basic mattress suggestions for different sleep positions:
Side and stomach sleepers may prefer softer to medium-feel mattresses that can contour their bodies and relieve pressure.
Back sleepers might be interested in a medium or firm level mattress to help align and support the spine, hips and shoulders.
At the GH Institute, we typically suggest a firm mattress for stomach sleepers and a medium to firm mattress for back sleepers to help with spinal alignment. Softer mattresses are helpful for side sleepers because they can alleviate stress around the shoulders, hips and knees.
How long does a Tempur-Pedic mattress last?
A Tempur-Pedic mattress will likely last around eight to ten years. Many of our survey panelists report that they’ve been sleeping on their Tempur-Pedic mattresses for years and have found the quality and shape of the mattresses to stand the test of time. A few respondents did start to notice dents where they lie in their beds as the mattresses aged. But overall, panelists claimed their beds performed well and maintained their shape, even after a decade of nightly use.
Brand representatives let us know that Tempur-Pedic offers a 10-year full replacement limited warranty, meaning the brand will replace or repair your mattress for free for up to 10 years if it meets the conditions of the warranty.
Pro tip: Tempur-Pedic’s mattresses aren’t designed to be flipped like a traditional innerspring because they’re created with distinct layers of foam from top to bottom, and Tempur-Pedic claims you don’t need to rotate your mattress, either. The brand does suggest to avoid placing the mattress on the floor to prevent moisture from accumulating underneath and to not use boxsprings as a base because they don’t provide enough support for memory foam mattresses. Also, remember to regularly clean and care for your mattress as directed by the manufacturer’s care instructions.
